Her family reported that they drove to the sea to spend a few nights in a house by the shore. She wandered off by herself late one night to watch the sky aglow above her and the illumination of phosphorus in each footstep like one might do in a storybook. She wandered too close to the water and an ocean tongue rolled in to sweep her out to sea.
Her body was found early the next morning with salt in her lungs and the pages of her notebook wrapped around her body like a ceramic doll. To reach her, Death had sailed in a little wooden boat with a lantern and pulled her soul from the sea. He wrapped a blanket around her shoulders and sang her lullabies in runes and soft seaweed before taking her into his arms and carrying her off to the place that is dark and warm.
Eliza was the kind of person who lived day by day and sought a companion in her name. She'd struggle to find a reason to call herself Eliza but often strayed too far from this
